Labour councillors have stated common recycling collections in North East Lincolnshire should resume or they are going to name a particular assembly of the council.
Collections had been suspended from 31 July to clear a backlog of waste.
Labour group chief Kath Wheatley stated it was not adequate for Conservative council chief Philip Jackson to take a seat again “whereas bins overflow”.
Mr Jackson stated the council was engaged on contingency plans in case there was no fast decision with unions.
Ms Wheatley stated: “It is easy – both Councillor Jackson will get a grip on this mess, or he faces the council.
“How can he sit again whereas bins overflow, targets are missed, and residents endure?”
North East Lincolnshire Council requested residents to not put out recycling between Monday 31 July and Friday 11 August, because the bins wouldn’t be emptied.
‘Pointing fingers’
Seven recycling crews had been moved on to different duties to assist clear a backlog of family waste and the council stated on Monday these routes had been virtually updated and being collected on time.
Ms Wheatley stated the authority’s incapacity to deal with a dispute with refuse workers had left garbage on the streets.
“Councillor Jackson appears extra content material pointing fingers than discovering options,” she stated.
“It is an abdication of accountability of the best order. Our residents deserve solutions and motion, not excuses.”
She stated if collections weren’t restored by the tip of August, she would request a particular council assembly to debate the difficulty.
In response, Mr Jackson stated he wouldn’t “take any classes from Labour on bin collections”.
He stated that among the loading crews had “unexpectedly modified their well-established working practices with out notifying the council”, resulting in slower collections, including the council was speaking to unions to try to resolve the matter.
“When the Conservatives took management of the council in 2019, the waste and recycling assortment service was inefficient and unreliable with abysmally low recycling charges,” he stated.”We needed to actually clear up Labour’s mess.”
